2002 US-China Business Building Conference (New York/New Jersey)

In conjunction with US Department of Commerce, US Small Business Administration and other state trade agencies and organizations, 2002 US-China Business Forum and Business Building Conference were organized by USCEA and held at Columbia University and Sheraton Hotel at Newark Airport at May 29 and 30, 2002, respectively.

Dr. George Wang, President of USCEA, hosted the two-day event. Mr. Michael Pappas, Regional Administrator of US SBA and former Congressman, Ms. Cheryl McQueen, Director of Office of China Economic Area, US Department of Commerce, Mr. Limin Wang, Deputy Governor of Heilongjiang Province of China, Ms. Milica Boskovic, Director of IntĄŻl Business Division of New York City MayorĄŻs Office, Jerry Shaye, Director of IntĄŻl Trade Development of New York State Department of Economic Development, Tony Caldwell, Director of IntĄŻl Trade & Protocol of New Jersey State Commerce & Economic Growth Commission, Lynda Icochea, Executive Director of National Association of Export Companies, Joseph Gonzalez, President of New Jersey Commerce & Industry Association, and Weiwen He, Commercial Counselor of Chinese Consulate General in New York, delivered welcome remarks and keynote speeches to more than 500 US and Chinese attendees of the two-day event. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey State Governor James McGreevey also sent the congratulation letters to the conference.

The visiting Chinese business delegation brought more than 100 projects from more than 10 provinces and cities, such as Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjing, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Guangzhou, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Sichuan of China, to the conference. The projects cover a wide range of industries, including pharmaceutical, chemical, telecommunication, machinery, electronic appliance, apparels, construction materials, finance as well as talent recruiting. More than 300 US attendees showed strong interests in these proposed projects, and about 30 Business Cooperation Intent Agreement were signed or ready to be signed at the end of this very successful conference.
