Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous Region, neighbors on Guangdong Province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Macao SAR. Facing the Southeast Asia and backing on the vast land of the vast southwest China, Nanning has become the hub of the vast southwestern region's passage to the sea, and is gradually emerging as a regional and logistic center to a larger sense in southwestern China. Nanning, "Yong" for short, has a long history and a rich cultural heritage. Dating back some 1,1600 years ago, in 318A.D., Nanning was first established as a prefecture, which was the start of Nanning becoming an officially administrated area. In 634A.D., Emperor of Tang Dynasty, Tang Tai Zong, named the city "Yong Zhou"(meaning the County of Yong). In 1314A.D., the central government of Yuan Dynasty named the city "Nanning"(meaning peaceful south), in the hope that the south would remain in peace.

Nanning is located in 10745'-10815'east longitude and 2212'-2332'north latitude city has a smooth terrain, sloping from the northeast to the southwest, with hills lying around. Nanning belongs to the subtropical monsoon zone, which brings sunshine and plenty of rainfall, with little frost or snow. The long humid summers and short dry winters have promised Nanning with a temperate climate in general. The average temperature around a year is 21C, the rainfall averages 1300mm a year and the average relative humidity is 79%.The city is developing and changing with each passing day. With a beautiful living environment, with the advantageous natural conditions, with the forest coverage rate higher than most of other cities, Nanning is rendered with the name "China's Green City".

Nanning is the most dynamic and open city in Guangxi's economic development. In the industrial infrastructure reform, the city's main focuses are: to develop aluminum processing, sugar refining and paper manufacturing; to further turn the advance technology into productive force; and to speed up the development of hi-tech industries, such as electronic and information industry, telecommunication, modern bio-pharmacy, environmental protection, new material manufacturing, etc., by cooperating with famous universities and institutes. In 2003, the administrative areas of Nanning were re-divided. Now, Nanning has jurisdiction over five urban districts, namely Chengbei District, Xincheng District, and seven counties, as Wuming County, Yorgning County, Hengxian County, Mashan County, Binyang County, Long'an County, and Spangling County. The total area is 22, 293km2,and the total population is 6.3470 million, consisting of over 36 minorities, such as Zhuang Nationality, Miao Nationality, Hui Nationality, Yao Nationality, etc. Among all the population, 1.4039 million are urban residents. People of all nationalities are living together friendly and harmoniously. The unique local traditions and the diversified ethnic cultures have provided Nanning with an open, tolerant and creative cured.
